Principals, teachers, and other volunteers helped 2,000 of the district's neediest students through a community service project called Navidad en el Barrio, held Dec. 15 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. There, the students were treated to a free meal, entertainment, a special visit from "Pancho Claus," and the exciting arrival of Santa Claus, who rolled into the venue in style on a Harley Davidson, escorted by Houston police officers. Santa then distributed gifts to the children based on what they had wished for.
