Students at Las Americas Newcomer School got (what was for many) their very first taste of Thanksgiving on Nov. 20, thanks to St. Luke's Methodist Church, which is right across the street, and Mireya Ottaviano, a congregant and member of the Memorial Spring Branch Rotary Club. Families at that campus come from 32 different countries, some of whom don’t know the meaning of Thanksgiving or why Americans celebrate it. All families enjoyed a turkey dinner with stuffing, cranberry, and pumpkin pie. Students were asked to write down at least one thing they were thankful for on each leaf to decorate this tree.
